Have You Always Wanted to Play the Guitar?

Guitar is Great at Any Age

The guitar is a beautiful and versatile instrument that can give you many years of enjoyment and you're never too old to start. I've taught 4 year olds, and 74 year olds, to play chords, pick out melodies, and to have fun with the guitar.

Learning music has many benefits. It can help your memory and research has shown that children who study music do better in school, particularly in math. It is also great way to meet people and participate in group music-making. Within a short time, you can learn enough to be able to strum along with or pick out simple tunes. A bit longer and some more work and you can have a number songs to play for friends and family, or just for your own enjoyment.

Whether you want to learn simple folk songs or to study the intricacies of classical guitar technique, theory and interpretation, I can help you reach your musical goals. I have almost forty years of guitar playing experience and 30 years of music teaching experience. And I still wake up in the mornings thinking, "I get to play guitar today!"

Other Instruments

I teach a number of instruments in addition to the guitar -- fiddle, mandolin, harp, and voice. Don't let the seeming complexity of the harp turn you away from this delightful instrument. It is very easy to learn the basics of harp playing. In fact, I found harp much easier to learn than guitar. On the harp, everything is laid out in a scale and it is color-coded, too! It's hard to sound bad on a harp.

I also teach the basics of voice, and focus on training students how to safely use their voice while learning how to accompany themselves on either guitar or harp.

What are You Waiting For?

Have you always wanted to play an instrument or learn to sing? Do you have children to whom you'd like to give the gift of music? If so, email me and I can give you more information on how to get started.

I teach music in the East Valley of the Phoenix Metro area, and offer private instruction in the student's home or online. In-home lessons are available in a limited geographic area. For availability, rates, or other questions, contact me.
